Soils

Shallow, stony Podzolic soil and rough topography are typical of Sudbury. The Sudbury Basin in the South of the district contains largely Organic soils, and Dystric Brunisol soil is scattered throughout the North.

Sudbury is the largest city in Northern Ontario, with a population of 160,274 in 2011. It is not administratively part of the district of Sudbury, although geographically contained by it. Chapleau

Chapleau is a town in the North of Sudbury district, with a population of 2116 in 2011. It is home to one of the world’s largest game preserves.
